Meet Coach Sophie!
Sophie is a member of the American Swimming Coaches Association, a Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and a USA certified Level ll Coach with over 20 years of experience helping children and adults learn to love the water! Her passion for competitive swimming began with the Bellaire Barracudas when her mother strongly encouraged the then-shy and timid seven year old to try-out for the summer swim team. By sixteen, Sophie was the assistant coach and then Head Coach for the Barracudas from 2017 to 2023!
In 2006, Sophie graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder where she coached the CU Masters team working closely with tri-athletes (both student and faculty). During this time, Sophie was awarded two competitive semester-long internship in Key Largo, Florida working with children with special needs at Island Dolphin Care, which utilizes dolphin-assisted therapy.
In 2007, Sophie moved to Santa Cruz, California where she was one of the coaches for Santa Cruz County Aquatics, a year-round competitive USA team. In this capacity, she coached numerous swimmers to be successful at the Junior Olympics and Far Western Competition level. She attended the American Swimming Coaches Association World Clinic in 2008 and 2016.
Sophie returned to Houston to obtain a Masters of Clinical Social Work at the University of Houston but could not stay away from the pool for long. She soon began working for a number of local swim instruction companies utilizing her skills and learning from others in the industry.
"Swim with Sophie" was born in 2014 and we now teach thousands of lessons each season with the help of our awesome instructors!
